How to manually check for Windows 10 Updates

1. Open Windows Start menu.
2. Click or tap the Settings icon.
3. Click or tap Update & Security.
4. Click or tap the Check for updates button.

Windows 10 will automatically download and install updates immediately after checking for updates. Windows 10 will show you a status of the update and what is being downloaded and installed.

To pause an update, click or tap Advanced options, go to the Pause Updates section and slide the switch to On.

To automatically download updates, click or tap Advanced options, go to the Update Options section, find the option that says “Automatically download updates, even over metered data connections (charges may apply)” and slide the switch to On.

Using the Windows Update service is not the only option to update Windows. Updates can also be individually downloaded from Microsoft Download Center and manually installed.
