July 8th, 2016: Private Internet Access MACE™ is a new feature that block ads, trackers and malware. Private Internet Access (PIA) has always sought to provide the most privacy-preserving solutions for customers using the PIA desktop client. After all, “Privacy is our Policy.” Online advertising is often a free-for-all where the end user loses. That’s why Private Internet Access created a VPN service with ad blocking features to keep users safe on Android, Windows, Mac and Linux.

Private Internet Access MACE™ blocks ads, trackers and malware

According to recent statistics, about 10% to 15% of internet users are currently using ad blockers. We believe this number should be a lot higher, and have doubled down on that belief with the release of MACE™. It is often hard for users to find the right ad blocker that works with their browser and is simple to use. Setting up an ad blocker at the network level requires even more technical expertise. Now customers will be able to use Private Internet Access MACE™ to block ads, trackers and malware on whatever browser they are using. To try out Private Internet Access MACE™, simply update the PIA client to v60.

About Private Internet Access (PIA)

Hi there, thanks for this. I see the option on the desktop client but not mobile. How can I enable adblocking on the iPhone app?

Hello. There… In the app go to settings -> scroll down –> enable MACE . If yiu did not find it update the app or reinstall it.

Are there any config options available or going to be made available for MACE? The current browser plugins I use allow me to look at and adjust the full lists of things I block, which I tweak regularly to the user experience I want. This is especially important for false-positive blocks. With MACE as it currently stands, my options seem to only be “on” or “off”?

I love the idea, especially if it blocks app/youtube ads on my iPhone as Kandi (another commenter in here) suggests.

I love it so much! It works great on Android too, something that has been needing a universal adblocker for so long. Adblock plus had an app that setups a proxy within your phone to block ads but it never worked. There are adblock browser apps but it’s only on the web browser and requires you to switch browsers.

I tested the MACE now and it works fantastic across all of the android, no more ads cluttering the apps even the free ones and I can finally watch youtube without the video advertisements. It’s great and a very good move by PIA I fully support. More people need to use ad blocking, internet ads have gotten out of hand.
