We interviewed the CEO and Co-Founder of SEON, and found out that his company protects companies from fraud and allows them to grow and scale their company.

Private Internet Access: What has your journey to your current job been?

Tamas Kadar: The past few years have been quite the ride that keeps on going.

In the beginning my co-founder and I were interested in entering the crypto market and starting our first fiat exchange platform for Central and Eastern Europe.

Unfortunately our attempts were obstructed by the fact that our digital safety fell victim to fraudsters who quickly found a way to crawl through inadequate security measures. Needless to say, there were no viable security measures or alternative software solutions to secure our crypto platform.

Thus came the idea that if something doesn’t work, we are the ones who have to take action.

The solution we came up with was to effectively secure certain digital assets from fraudsters and expand it into a viable business. This is what led us to create SEON Technologies and channel its growth to this very day.

The biggest milestones of this journey were the competitions, clients and investment rounds we’ve gained. However nothing compares to the point when we raised the largest Series A funding round in our country’s history. This has been the highlight of our journey… so far.

PIA: What do you love about working in cybersecurity?

TK: Normally this would be a difficult question, because cybersecurity is not an interesting topic to discuss with everyone. But from my end, the varied work and the risks we face keeps the job interesting.

Especially these days when digitalization is taking over the world as a result of businesses going online. This also means that cybersecurity threats are also on the rise and new ways to take advantage of market vulnerabilities are coming up.

This makes our job more and more demanding and interesting at the same time.

PIA: Why do individuals and companies need a good VPN?

TK: As many would know, sending personal information over the internet like banking details would jeopardize your account’s safety. In my opinion VPN is a good solution for securing business data, making networks more secure and robust. This is great for business leaders and tech startup founders. Mainly because it can keep us with some ease of mind so we don’t have to worry about other parts of the business.

PIA: What are the worst cyberthreats out there today?

TK: That’s actually a really good question. We have just completed a global cybersecurity report across 95 countries to see which countries are under the most threat and what types of cyber threats occur. As shown in the image below, we can clearly see that email phishing and pharming are the two most common types of attacks individuals and businesses experience.

Our study also found that the amount of fraud being experienced has dramatically increased in 2020 in the US. The reason for this is that many businesses that went online are ill-experienced to fend off any cyber threat.

This is why the simplest types of cyber crime like email phishing, non-payment and extortion are so common and yet dangerous.

PIA: How is the pandemic changing the way your company deals with cybersecurity?

TK: As I mentioned, there is a rise of businesses going online, propelled by curfew and restrictions last year. As more and more businesses go online I would say that the biggest cybersecurity threats are the latest ones.

The Covid-19 outbreak has forced many industries to adapt to different ways of operating because of curfew and physical restrictions. Many smaller businesses had to adapt to a more SaaS method of doing business. Common retailers are now online retailers. And they had to adapt to the new circumstances fast, lest they’d lose their business.

As a result of this fast transition many businesses are ill experienced for the different cyber attacks and have not ensured proper protection for their companies. There has been a rapid increase in fraudulent activities online, which is concerning since fraudsters use the same methods over and over again.

It is our job and dedication at SEON to help as many individuals and businesses as possible with regards to cyber security.
